Band Pro offers new 4K ‘Mystery Prime’ Lenses

Band Pro Film and Digital are introducing a new brand of PL mount prime lenses, designed
to deliver optical performance suitable for 4K imaging and beyond.

After three years of design and prototyping, the new T1.4 lenses, which Band Pro have code named ‘Mystery Primes’, are fully developed. Three focal lengths were due to be demonstrated on the Sony F35 camera at their One World on HD event in mid December 2009. The series of prime lenses will eventually total 15 different focal lengths, ranging from 12mm to 150mm. Delivery of production models of eight of the lenses will begin in early summer of 2010. Michael Bravin, Chief Technologist of Band Pro said that the use of aspheric technology and mechanical cine lens design helps to provide the lenses with more even illumination across the 35mm frame and into the corners with minimal breathing and good suppression of colour fringing. The lenses feature unified distance focus scales, common size and location of focus and iris rings, and a 95mm lens front, threaded for filters, all of which should allow quick interchange of lenses in production environments. For example, an integrated threaded net ring is located in the rear of the PL mount. Designed to be lightweight and strong, the mount and lens barrel are manufactured using titanium materials. A typical Mystery Prime weighs about 1.4kg.The core set of Mystery Primes, which will start delivering by June 2010, includes 16mm, 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 75mm, and 100mm lenses. Additional focal lengths will be delivered in a second phase. www.bandpro.com
