1. Little Jinshan Temple
The Jinshan Temple was built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). It is located on the Wulongjiang River, at the lower reaches of Minjiang River and the western part of Fuzhour. It is known as ¡°Little Jinshan¡± because it resembles the Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province.
The temple, refined and exquisite, was constructed against the rock on an island of about 30 to 40 square meters. Historically, many refined scholars studied and did writings here, leaving behind many sites and scenes of historical significance.
In ancient times there was a bridge connecting the temple with the mainland. The bridge was washed away by flood in the 43rd year (1615) of the reign of the Wanli Emperor, the 13th emperor of the Ming Dynasty. Since then people have to take the ferry boat to get to the Temple.. This introduces a poetic and picturesque scene.
Formerly little known to tourists, the ¡°Little Jinshan Temple¡± now is a famous tourist attraction in Fuzhou. The present temple was rebuilt in 1934, where several nuns now live. In addition to sightseeing, visitors may have a try of the simple and refreshing vegetarian diet in the temple¡¯s canteen.
