10. Mawei Shipyard

Founded in 1866 and known as Fujian Shipbuilding Administration, the shipyard was one of the birthplaces of the Chinese Navy, and also the first specialized shipyard in modern Chinese history. It was the biggest shipyard in the Far East in mid-19th century. It is now an important shipbuilding base in South China. The Mawei Harbor is the gateway for the Minjiang River to empty into the East China Sea. Its terminal is capable of berthing 30,000-dwt vessels. It is a pilot port for direct shipping services between the two sides of Taiwan Strait.
