11. Boats and shadows on the Minjiang River

The Minjiang River is the most important transport route in Fuzhou Province. The water navigation dates back to the Pre-Qin era (before 221 BC). The river is lined on both sides by dark green mountains. The scenery is beautiful, especially at the lower reaches between Fuzhou and the river estuary, where the river is broad, water flows evenly, and the magnificent natural landscape and artificial cultural scenes merge into an integrated whole. (Left: 1920s, East Asian Prints / A collection of Film Easy Times). The unique landscape of sail shadows (middle) on the Minjiang River has quietly disappeared. (Center: 1950s, Fujian Pictorial). Picture shows the ocean-going vessels on the Minjiang river, each of 10,000-dwt or larger. (Right: 2009, photo by Yang E¡¯nuo)
